What Actually Goes Into Small-Town Social Media
(Spoiler: It’s not just posting pretty pictures.)
Let’s be real: social media has changed a lot.
But small towns?
They’ve always been about connection.
Still, that doesn’t mean the work behind the posts is small.
Behind every cute parade photo, event recap, or “meet the local baker” video, there’s a lot of hustle happening behind the scenes. Sometimes from a full team.
But more often than not?
From one person on the sidewalk, holding her phone, trying to make sure Grandma sees her grandkid dancing in the street.
Yep. That’s me. Hi. 👋
Here’s what you don’t always see behind the feed:
📍 Me, crouched on the curb mid-parade, phone in one hand, trying to capture the perfect moment with a latte cooling off in the other.
📸 Taking 27 versions of the same shot because someone blinked, the lighting changed, or a float rolled by at the worst moment.
📶 Trying to post live updates with 1 bar of cell service.
🧠 Writing captions from memory in the car because I forgot my notebook (again).
☀️ Wondering if this photo is too sunny, too blurry, or if the caption will even make sense later.
It's not glamorous.
It's not curated.
But it’s real—and that’s the point.
It’s Not About Likes (Really)
At the end of the day, it’s not about the likes.
It’s about the comment from someone’s aunt:
“Thank you for posting this—I couldn’t be there, but I saw my nephew.”
That’s the stuff that makes me pause.
That’s why I do this.
Not for reach.
Not for perfection.
But to make sure this town feels seen. 💙
Small-Town Moments Move Fast
And so does the one-woman team trying to keep up with it all.
Most days, it’s:
Capture → Caption → Post → Repeat.
Sometimes there’s planning. But honestly?
It’s mostly heart.
It’s showing up early and staying late.
It’s remembering people’s names, learning the rhythm of the community, and knowing what moments matter.
Because in a small town, you don’t need a polished promo.
You just need to care.
So... Why Am I Sharing This?
Because if you’re a small-town business owner feeling overwhelmed by social media—or feeling like your posts aren’t “doing enough”—I see you.
And I want you to know:
You don’t have to go viral.
You don’t need perfect graphics.
You just need a strategy that sounds like you and serves your community.
That’s what I help with at Mirth & Joy.
And if you’re wondering what that could look like for your business, I’d love to chat.
No pressure—just possibilities.
